E-LT RFP and Same Technology Upgrade Results

The Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) released its resource adequacy update, providing final results from the Expedited Long-Term Request for Proposals (E-LT RFP) and Same Technology Upgrades (Same Tech). The results are an update from the previous month’s results and include the weighted average price of the procurement. Through the E-LT RFP, the IESO has procured 930 MW of storage and 318.5 MW of gas-fired generation.

Offtake opportunities for BOEM’s Central Atlantic lease area

Recent legislation in Maryland increasing the state’s offshore wind goal to 8.5 GW by 2031 strengthens offtake opportunities for BOEM’s Central Atlantic lease area. This is a significant increase from the 2019 goal set through the Clean Energy Jobs Act of 1.2 GW by 2030.

May 2023 Ontario Electricity Market Update: IESO Announces Initial Results of E-LT 1 RFP and Same Technology Upgrade Solicitation

In May the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) released initial results from the Expedited Long-Term Request for Proposals (E-LT 1 RFP), procuring 318.5 MW of gas-fired generation and roughly 780 MW of battery storage under the Category 1 storage category. Additional storage capacity is likely to follow from the so-called Category 2 storage proposals, i.e., those proposals whose price exceeded an undisclosed IESO threshold and which were referred to the Canadian Infrastructure Bank (CIB) to seek potential price reductions through lower project financing costs.

Battery Systems <5 MW begin capturing New York VDER revenue

The amount of operational battery storage in New York is relatively small but poised for significant growth. A New York Public Service Commission press release indicated that just 130 megawatts of energy storage in total was operating in the state as of November 2022.
